Introduction and Application of Internal Family Systems

This presentation is an introduction to the therapeutic approach, Internal Family System (IFS).  It will provide a) historical background to the multiplicity of mind theory; 2) a review of the main principles of IFS; 3) examples of its application with adults and children, 4) its use with other therapy modalities such as EMDR, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy (SP), Sand Tray Therapy, and Play Therapy.   

About the Presenter Dr. Najmeh Hourmanesh:

I received my training as a school psychologist at the University of Utah in the Department of Educational Psychology; I did my internship at UNI. Over the years I have worked in public schools (mainly Title I schools), The Children Center, and in private practice.   In my private practice, I primarily work with individuals of all ages with Complex PTSD including children, adolescents, and adults. I train U of U doctoral Interns in various therapy modalities including TF-CBT, IFS, EMDR, Play Therapy, and Sand Tray Therapy.  I also consult with other clinicians who are pursuing their certification in EMDR or IFS.  Finally, I am one of the facilitators in the workshops provided by Farnsworth Lobenstine, LICSW, on “Integration of Structural Dissociation, Ego State Therapy and EMDR Therapy”.
